Taiwan Strait rescue enhances with Sikorsky S76C+ helicopter

The Taiwan Straits has the second largest number of accidents each year,
only after those occurring at the mouth of the Yangtze River.
A Sikorsky S-76C+ Search and Rescue helicopter has been put into service in the Xiamen Flying Service Rescue Team, a part of the East China Sea Rescue Bureau, to join in rescue missions in the Taiwan Straits, Xiamen-based Taihainet.com reported on Tuesday.
The med-sized helicopter, valued at 90 million yuan (US$ 13.18 million) and manufactured by U.S. Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation, is 13.22m long, 2.13m in width and 4.42m in height. It has a maximum speed of 287 km/h at sea level. Equipment includes a rescue hoist, FLIR, Nightsun searchlight and 4-axis auto hovering system.

Together with another French helicopter in the rescue team, the two helicopters will be performing over the Xiamen International Convention & Exhibition Centre at 9:30am Jan. 23, 2009 and open to the public during the day.
