USA Today has a good list also.
Another major seismic event has occurred today. A 7.1 earthquake struck China's Qinghai Province on Wednesday, killing at least 589 people and injuring more than 10,000 as mud and wood houses collapsed, reports the AP. And, as many people are still trapped, the death toll is expected to rise.
The government has so far allocated $30 million for relief, and mobilized more than 5,000 soldiers, medical workers and other rescuers, joining 700 troops already on the ground.
As international aid groups rush to assess the damage and provide support, here's what you can do to help:
- The American Red Cross has pledged an initial $50,000 to help families in China's Qinghai Province, and is prepared to offer more assistance as local responders assess the situation and if international assistance is requested. Go here to make a donation to their International Response Fund, which supports these efforts;
- Give2Asia works with charitable groups in China, like the China Charity Federation (CCF), to support local communities affected by disaster. Click here to donate to their "Give2Asia 2010 Qinghai Earthquake Fund", which will help with recovery efforts;
- Mercy Corps is currently on the ground in Qinghai province. Donate to their China Earthquake Fund to support their efforts.
